She is President of the Board of Directors of WRAPP, a Colorado nonprofit corporation formed to fight for Pagan and Wiccan civil and religious rights. She is an Aquarian, and thus has to fight against her tendency to want to change the world. She is currently losing this fight. Married for much of her adult life, she is presently single.
About The Living Goddess, Jackie says: "We all have some of God/Goddess/Spirit within us. My web and e-mail address are reminders to me to remember that I am Goddess, to rise above everyday concerns to the broader, more compassionate macrocosmic view. The words come from my ex, Ken Verner, who used to meet me with: 'Greetings, you living Goddess on earth! How are you today?' May we all receive such salutations!"
In grade two I was selected to play the witch in a class production of Hansel and Gretel: "Nibble, nibble, little mousie, who is nibbling on my housie? (Cackle!)" I believe it was no accident. I wanted that role! As a child I loved folk stories and myths, especially the tales of Robin Hood and King Arthur and stories of the Old Gods. I also loved to study the traditional lifestyle and religion of the First Peoples of Canada and the US and other indigenous peoples.I grew up sensitive, sickly and depressed on the raincoast of the Pacific Northwest (Vancouver, BC), where I had my loss of faith in Judiasm and began my spiritual search in earnest at the age of 14. There was much I liked about Buddhism and Hinduism, but something was missing. For me, it was re-discovering the Goddess, the feminine divine, that ended my search.I have lived in the US for 29 years and it was in Denver that I became involved in Wicca, something like 25 years ago. I have been a High Priestess of the Craft, having run Dragonfhain (coven) and High Plains Church of Wicca for many years with my ex-husband George Moyer. George and Rhiannon Asher expanded the church newsletter that I began. They created Hole in the Stone, a national award-winning Pagan magazine. I was a founder of DAWN - the Denver Area Wiccan Network, one of the founders of Dragonfest (Dragonfhain produced the first Dragonfest and named it, too), and have created and run the Magickal May Festival and the Witches' Ball.Living out the archetype of the Wounded Healer, I studied alternative healing modalities on the way to my own healing. Professionally and magickally, I love working with altered states (trance) and the subconscious mind. I have also worked in noncredit adult education, being the director of the southeast branch of Denver Free University (DFU), the nonprofit business that preceded the privately-owned CFU.I have always been a supporter of civil liberties and civil rights. I was a political activist in the 1970's, working for peace, environmental and women's rights in Vancouver. I ran an underground high school newspaper with a circulation of 20,000. I have been a member of food co-ops, credit unions, a labor union, housing co-ops, etc. and used to be an organic gardener until Denver's clay soil, erratic climate and thistles overwhelmed me.I have long believed that Wiccans and Pagans must organize groups to fight for their religious rights, politically and legally. I am a founder of WRAPP, and have been the President of the Board of Directors since its incorporation. I am happy to say that the Board has been able to work together for over 2 1/2 years in a non-contentious, effective and loving way, and that our intention is for that level of responsible interaction to continue.
